AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF PROFESSIONAL LANDMEN

For those of you who have not heard, Robin Forte is no longer with AAPL as its Director of Education.  AAPL is seeking applications for this position.  Candidates should have a degree in business or a related field with 5 years managerial experience and possess strong communication skills.  For further information, see the job bank for AAPL at http://www.landman.org.  You may also wish to contact Bruce Benes, AAPL's Executive Vice President at 888-566-2275.

ROCKY MOUNTAIN MINERAL LAW FOUNDATION
The annual institute will be held in Vancouver, B.C. on July 20-22, 2000 in Vancouver, BC, Canada. For more information, call the Foundation at (303) 321-8100, fax (303) 321-7657 or e-mail info@rmmlf.org. Remember that RMMLF site can accessed through a link on the NLA Links page.

LEGISLATIVE MATTERS
1. Abandoned Mine Lands, Environmental Assessment, BLM - To facilitate remediation of hazards associated with Abandoned Mined Lands on public lands in Nevada.  The public meeting for Nevada is on Tuesday, August 1, 2000 at the BLM State Office at 7:00 p.m.  Written comments are to be sent to Christopher Ross, BLM NSO 920, P.O. Box 12000, Reno, Nevada 89520-0006.  For further information, Call Christopher Ross at 775-861-6571.

2. Roadless Initiative, USFS, Draft Environmental Assessment, USFS - If you do not have copies of the DEIS, please request a copy from Mike Dombeck, Chief, U.S. Forest Service, P.O. Box 96090, Washington, D.C. 20090-6090.  It would be best to fax your request to 703-605-5287.  If you need more specific information about the document, please call Susie Mason at 775-824-4000.  It would also be helpful if your request for the DEIS also included a request for the USFS to extend the comment deadline (the current comment deadline is July 17th). 

3. 3809 Regulations - To the best of my knowledge, the redrafted proposed regulations have not been published.  If this information is incorrect, please call Susie at 775-824-4000.

ADDITIONS & CORRECTIONS TO
NLA MEMBERSHIP DIRECTORY
The 2000 Membership Directory is headed to the publisher.  Bill Houston has already made the changes on the website directory.  For those of you with Internet access, please review the information on the web site and contact Susie Mason at 775-824-4000 or e-mail at smason@nvlandman.org if there are corrections required.  Any misinformation in the printed directory will be corrected in future issues of the Communiqué.
NLA HIGHWAY CLEAN-UP
The 2000 clean-up was a great success. Thanks to Bill Houston, Conn Davis, Ed Devenyns, Katie Devenyns, Edd Jackson, Mike Geary, Tracy Guinand and Richard Thompson for participating and a special THANKS to Jenny Taelour, Draftsman and Land Administrator of Glamis Gold, Inc., for chairing this important event.
NLA ANNUAL PICNIC
Cy Wilsey, CPL, Land Manager, U.S. of Homestake Mining Company will once again chair this annual event.  The picnic will be on August 12, 2000 at the same Galena Creek location as in years past.  The sign-up sheet for the picnic is a part of this newsletter, or download a MS-Word version by CLICKING HERE.  In either case please RSVP asap.

Bill Houston, RLP,  LandInfo Services, continues to serve as NLA’s Webmaster.   Please send items for the Web Site to Bill at 775-746-2434 or wghouston@juno.com.  Bill informs me that NLA is now listed on all the major search engines at this point, including Alta Vista, Yahoo, and Infoseek, among others.  You can find us through many combinations of key words.  Our web site has also crossed over the 2000 "hit" mark!
