AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF PROFESSIONAL LANDMEN

The position of Education Director has been filled.  William Patterson joined the AAPL Fort Worth staff effective October 15, 2000.  More details on his background will be contained in upcoming AAPL publications and the Communiqué.

AAPL is still seeking an Executive Director.  Anyone interested in this position should contact Eric K. LEGISLATIVE MATTERS
The final Environmental Impact Statement (2 Volumes) for the revisions to 43 CFR-3809 has been published.  If you did not receive a copy of the FEIS, copies may be obtained at the BLM.  Alternative 3 is the Preferred Alternative in the FEIS.  It is important for each member to obtain a copy of this document and carefully study the Preferred Alternative. 

The anticipation is that the regulations will take effect between November 20th and the end of the year.

Late Breaking Security Issues:
"New McAfee virus update freezes Windows." McAfee virus definition file 4102 (released November 1, 2000) is incompatible with VirusScan engine version 4.0.02 and will hang up Windows during bootup once the update is installed.  Make sure you use the virus definition file version 4103 which is currently posted on McAfee's site.
