"NLA ESTABLISHES  WEB PRESENCE"

At its September 17th meeting NLA membership voted to establish an Internet presence by approving funds to create and maintain a Web site for NLA.   The Internet domain name "nvlandman.org"  has been registered with Internic, and the site can now be found on the Web at:

(But of course you already know that if you are reading this)

There is no question that the Internet is one of the greatest information resource tools of our time.  In addition to providing direct e-mail communication and data transfer, it also provides simple query language access to the broadest - most comprehensive data base ever made available at a single searchable source.   Any topic - any question, you will find some timely information on the net.   All  this for a minimal cost to the user and provider - wow what a deal!  Because of the Internet's  exponential growth, for a business or organization to not participate with a web presence is, in my view, a lost opportunity at best, and more likely a step toward obsolescence, as electronic communication/publishing becomes the norm.

As our industry continues to get battered from all directions it is important for NLA to promote its  presence as part of the professional mining and land resource community and to effectively communicate with its membership, affiliate organizations,  and other interested parties.  This presence can be significantly enhanced through establishment of a NLA Web site.

What would it accomplish?
Establishing a NLA web-site will not find mines, make us all wealthy or double NLA membership.

It would however create an effective and timely means of communicating with NLA membership, other industry associations, and the public at large.  Awareness and participation are key to survival in tough times.   A web presence would serve to promote these objectives by:

• making NLA's presence known & info available to a broader audience,
• providing membership and web audience with timely association & issue info,
• publishing monthly NLA newsletter as well as special topic issues,
• promotion of NLA events with electronic events calendar,
• on-line availability of NLA contact and membership information,
• registration of a  NLA Internet domain name and e-mail address

nla@nvlandman.org,
• establishing web links to and from other industry associations,
• providing membership with useful web link resources.
• many other.....

For a Web site to remain effective it must be updated with current relevant information, or run the risk of becoming redundant.   Membership is therefore encouraged to contribute items of interest for inclusion on the site.   The beauty of the Internet is that you have virtually unlimited electronic paper space to get your message out.

Please take the time explore your NLA Web site and feel free to make any comments or suggestions that you feel would enhance the usefulness of the site to the membership.  Also be sure to check your directory listing info NLA Membership Directory for accuracy and let us know of any errors or omissions.
